When aluminum siding was first marketed, it was promoted as a long-lasting, maintenance-free alternative to traditional sidings.
 

Since aluminum is rotproof, waterproof, corrosion-resistant and able to withstand years of exposure to the elements, the siding itself will last virtually indefinitely if simply left alone. This is not true, however, of  the fine layer of paint that stands between aluminum siding and the rest of the world.

 

Aluminum siding chalks, fades and can wear down to bare metal if neglected long enough.After 20 or 30 years, aluminum siding can really use a new look.
